Hey friends -
Happy New Year!
Thank you to each of you for subscribing, reading, and engaging with my letter and podcast each week. Rich or poor, old or young, time is ever depreciating and increasingly fleeting. I am extraordinarily grateful you spend such a precious resource with me every week!
A weekly letter remains very much a novel endeavor for me. Not since undergraduate had I written anything long-form and never with the consistency with which these letters are published. I set out writing to "spark conversations we might not otherwise have had." In that respect, these letters have been a resounding success. And yet, I have gotten so much more out of it than I anticipated.
Your feedback, while hoped for, was unexpected. You pushed me to improve the content, my writing, and how information is presented. Both the letter and I are the better for it. Thank you!
The result? Readership and engagement steadily increased as I published more letters. The top read letters were:
Stock Trading is Broken - the old, creaky infrastructure powering stock trading
Startup Equity Compensation - understanding startup equity as a founder or employee
Inflation Part 1 and Part 2 - the complexities of calculating inflation and how inflation can go hyper
And you can always explore the full archives including personal favorites on how credit cards work and product bundling.
I ask of you a favor as we enter the new year - help me grow engagement.
When I started earlier this year - with a much smaller readership - ~50% of you opened each letter. You now open 60%+ of letters and your engagement with the accompanying podcast is growing. Those improvements are almost entirely from your suggestions on topics and new ways I can present the content. Please continue to do so - your feedback remains invaluable.
My best to you and yours. I look forward to exploring more of this ever-fascinating world with you in the new year!
Cheers,
Jared
